Parks and Recreation

The City of Mobile's Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) is dedicated to enhancing the social, emotional, and physical well-being of every citizen. With a vast network of parks, community centers, and recreational programs, the department's mission is to provide diverse activities in secure and welcoming spaces.

From youth athletics and senior fitness to city-wide events and quiet parks, MPRD strives to offer something for everyone. The department is committed to diversity and inclusion, making a conscious effort to ensure citizens of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities have opportunities to participate, provide feedback, and help shape the future of recreation in Mobile.

Core Function

MPRD offers a comprehensive range of facilities and programs designed to meet the recreational needs of the entire community.

Key Services

A Vast Network of Parks

The city maintains dozens of parks, offering everything from playgrounds and splash pads to athletic fields and tranquil green spaces for relaxation. A new splash pad at Laun Park is a recent addition, opened in the summer of 2025.

Athletics and Aquatics

The department organizes a wide variety of sports leagues for all ages, including baseball and softball. An extensive aquatics program provides pools and splash pads for summer fun.

Community and Senior Centers

These centers serve as hubs for community life, offering fitness centers, gymnasiums, computer labs, and meeting rooms. They host a wide array of programs for all ages, with dedicated services and activities for seniors.

Recreational Programs

Residents can sign up for numerous programs, including gymnastics, tennis, and various fitness classes. The MPRD Kids Summer Camp is a popular offering, with a new online registration process to make it easier for parents.

Events

MPRD hosts numerous community events throughout the year, including a new twist on "Movies in the Park" designed to increase community participation. The department also celebrates National Parks and Recreation Month each July with a full slate of activities.

Rentals and Permits

Citizens can rent pavilions, community centers, and other facilities for private events and gatherings.
